A Bitter Brew

I bottled my latest brewing experiment last night.

I think this is the first batch I've brewed that will not have mass appeal. It's quite hoppy. (Translation: bitter.) I'm leaning towards calling it "Acrid Ale," or maybe "You Aren't Going To Like This Ale." I think that will set people's expectations properly.

I suppose this does give me an excuse to make another batch fairly soon - I need to produce something drinkable for Katy.

[UPDATE: The marketing wizards here at Flying W Brewery have decided to call it "Acrid Ale" with a tagline of "You Won't Like It!" Label art will be posted shortly.]

This guy at work kept going on and on the other day about Meade.. He went to some festival in San Antonio where they brewed it or brought their own (I honestly don't remember which... I would think you'd have to pre-brew it, then bring it) He was talking about how it was made with honey...

Anyway, I am by no means a beer drinker (the mere smell of it makes me feel like I'm going to puke), but by his description this stuff sounded good...

Meade is different and good...had a friend who used to make it. Read up on its origins/history before you decide to make it and share it (or choose your guest list carefully, he, he).

Hey Meg,

I assume you are referring to this bit of lore regarding mead.

Mead is extremely easy to make - all you need is honey, water, and yeast.

No, actually, this one

Honey, and by association, mead, have been attributed with such powers as that of an aphrodisiac, and it has been said in times gone by that it imbues the drinker with attributes such as life, wisdom, courage and strength.
