After we got set up at Ryan Campground - one of the smaller campgrounds in the park - we set out on a short hike. We could see what looked like buildings across the valley floor and headed over to check them out.

We found the remains of the Ryan homestead. Apparently it was damaged extensively by vandals in the early '70s. The walls are homemade bricks and mortar - I suspect it was considered quite a big place in it's day. There used to be a spring in the area but an earthquake shut it down some time ago.
