About Flying W Dot Org

Some people are curious about this domain. Let's get one thing straight right up front: This is not the web site for the Flying W Ranch. The Flying W Ranch is (in their own words) "a working mountain cattle ranch located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that has specialized in western food and entertainment since 1953." Neither will you find information regarding Flying W Farms, Flying W Outfitters, Flying W Livestock Equipment, the Flying W Airport Resort, the Flying W Guest Ranch, or the Flying W Ranch (of Kellettville, Pennsylvania) here.

As it turns out, I have visited the Colorado Springs Flying W Ranch - in the company of my extended family during a reunion hosted by my cousin Steve. We had dinner, saw the show, and came up with our own family interpretation of the "Flying W." This manuver would have likely died a quick death if not for Steve's immediate negative reaction, which of course encouraged us to keep it up, making it a memorable part of the trip.

Years pass. I begin brewing beer. (It all seems to come back to the beer, doesn't it?) I am searching for a snappy name to use for "my" brewery. "Flying W" came to mind as my last name does indeed start with W, and the beer is often strong enough to get you flying.

Over the years, the name has spread from the Flying W Brewery to other uses - a spoof comic strip I drew for an unofficial company newsletter was published by the Flying W Syndicate, and I have a fantasy baseball team called the Flying W Twins. So when I decided it was time to register a domain, "flyingw" seemed a logical choice. Dot com was taken, dot net was taken, dot org was not.

So now you know.
