December 2006 Archives

My number one Christmas tune for this year:

Happy Christmas (War Is Over) from Sarah McLachlan's new Christmas album "Wintersong"

I (heart) Sarah's voice. The whole album is good, but I really like her cover of the classic Lennon Christmas tune.

And this year's "I never want to hear that again?" Anything by Aaron Neville. I want to reach through the radio and strangle him when he starts that pseudo-yodeling vibrato crap. Just sing the song!

Now you know.

(and other mondegreens)

The kids are taking piano lessons now, and so my mom sent them a book of Christmas songs to play. This weekend Cameron's lesson included that old chestnut "Jingle Bells."

As he was reading through the lyrics he exclaimed "Oh! I always thought it was a 'sopen' sleigh!"

I laughed to myself as I considered just what (who?) was pulling that "sopen" sleigh.

Speaking of mondegreens, I love this commercial:

Lipitor Backlash

I have high cholesterol. For years I've fought being put on medication for it, but this year my doctor insisted.

"Ok, fine, set me up some statins," I begrudgingly told him. When I'd been taking them for a couple months I went in for a checkup. They wanted to see how it was working, and to make sure it wasn't killing my liver (I think the bourbon is to blame there, doc).

Pre-drugs, my total number was 260. After two months of Lipitor? 140.

One-forty!

Talk about better living through pharmaceuticals... Bring on the deep-fried sticks of butter - oh, and could you wrap that in bacon? And maybe melt some cheese on it?
